Lesson 11 - Thursday

Giving That Brings Us Together

Read: Romans 15:26–27

Paul’s collection for the believers in Jerusalem was about much more than money. It was a powerful expression of Christian unity.

The churches in Macedonia and Achaia were helping believers who were far away and facing serious needs. Paul saw this gift as more than charity. It was fellowship in action. These Gentile believers were showing their Jewish brothers and sisters, “We belong to the same family.”

Romans 15:26–27 reveals Paul’s desire for unity because he wanted believers from different backgrounds, cultures, and locations to care for one another. The collection helped break down barriers and demonstrated that the gospel creates a family that goes beyond geography, culture, and personal differences.

Think about how Paul describes giving throughout his letters. An offering can be service, ministry, grace, a blessing, worship, and fellowship. That is a powerful way to view our giving. We are not simply putting money into a church offering. We are participating in God's work and helping meet the needs of people we may never meet.

This is especially true when we give to churches and missions in other countries. Someone thousands of miles away may never know our name, but our generosity can help provide food, education, evangelism, disaster relief, or a place where people can hear about Jesus.

Our giving says, “You are my brother. You are my sister. Your needs matter to me because we belong to the same family.”

When we give beyond our local church, we help remind the worldwide church that we are not separate groups competing for resources. We are one body serving one Lord and carrying one gospel.

Perhaps the next time you give an offering, don't simply think, “I am giving money.” Think, “I am helping build unity in God's family.”

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for making us part of one worldwide family through Jesus. Help us to look beyond our own churches, communities, and countries and see the needs of our brothers and sisters around the world. Give us generous hearts that willingly share what You have entrusted to us. May our offerings become acts of worship, service, grace, and fellowship. Use our giving to break down barriers, strengthen Your church, and bring greater unity among Your people. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Fruits of an Authentic Ministry

They might never open a Bible. They might never attend church. They might never hear a sermon. But they could watch how you treat people, how you respond when you are hurt, how you handle difficulty, how you speak when you are angry, and how you live when no one is watching. In 2 Corinthians 3, Paul uses a powerful picture to describe this kind of Christian witness. He asks the Corinthians whether he needs a letter of recommendation to prove the authenticity of his ministry. His ministry was not an easy journey filled with comfort, recognition, and success. He experienced hardship, rejection, persecution, physical danger, disappointment, and exhaustion. Yet in the middle of all of it, Paul refused to lose hope. In 2 Corinthians 4, he gives us a remarkable description of both his suffering and his confidence in God. Paul says: “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8–9, KJV). Christ-focused Ministry of Reconciliation

He did not preach himself. He did not build his ministry around personal popularity, success, or recognition. His motivation was Christ's love and his desire to help people become reconciled to God. Paul writes, “For the love of Christ constraineth us” (2 Corinthians 5:14, KJV). That statement reveals the heart of his ministry. Paul had experienced the love and grace of Christ personally. Call to Holiness

  Sabbath School First and Second Corinthians  Authentic Christian Ministry Lesson 10 - Wednesday Called to Be Holy: Living as God’s Temple Read 2 Corinthians 6:11–7:1 Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 6:11–7:1 give us a powerful picture of what a holy life looks like. Holiness is not simply about avoiding certain behaviors or following a list of religious rules. It is about belonging completely to God and allowing that relationship to shape every part of our lives. Paul begins by reminding the Corinthians that his heart is open to them. He longs for them to respond to God with the same openness and devotion. Then he gives a strong warning: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers” (2 Corinthians 6:14, KJV).
