It was known for its commerce, social status, intellectual pride, and moral corruption. Success was measured by wealth, influence, and personal achievement. Competition was celebrated, power was admired, and prestige was pursued. Unfortunately, many of these worldly values found their way into the church. As we read both letters to the Corinthians, it becomes clear that the believers struggled to separate themselves from the culture around them.
