Jesus did not teach His followers to pray this because temptation might come someday; He taught it because temptation is a daily reality for every believer. Too often, we pray after we have fallen rather than before the battle begins. We ask God for help when we are already discouraged, overwhelmed, or trapped in sin. Yet Jesus invites us to pray proactively, seeking His protection before temptation gains a foothold in our lives. This prayer is an acknowledgment that we cannot overcome sin in our own strength.
