But every law God gave to Israel carried His divine wisdom. They were not merely rules but expressions of His character—His justice, His mercy, and His holiness. In His mercy, God gave these laws to correct the sinful tendencies of the human heart and to restrain the natural inclinations of people. These instructions protected society, eliminated evil, and cultivated good relationships between neighbors. Justice and love were to rule every action.
