The Creator Speaks 

Lesson 1 - Sunday

God Still Speaks Through His Creation

“And God said…” Those words appear again and again in the opening chapters of Genesis. In Eden, communication between God and human beings was direct, personal, and unhindered by sin. Genesis 1:27–28 tells us that God created humanity in His own image and then blessed Adam and Eve, speaking to them about their purpose and their responsibility to care for the earth. In Genesis 2:15–17, God gave Adam clear instructions about the Garden and warned him not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Then something tragic happened. Sin entered the world, and the relationship between God and humanity changed. Yet even after Adam and Eve sinned, God still came looking for them. Genesis 3:9 records the beautiful question, “Where are you?” God was not asking because He did not know where Adam was. He was calling His fallen children back into communication with Him.

Before sin, humanity experienced an openness with God that we can hardly imagine today. There was no fear, shame, hiding, or separation. God created human beings to know Him, hear Him, respond to Him, and live in fellowship with Him. Sin interrupted that perfect relationship, but it did not change God's desire to communicate with us.

And yet, God has not left us without a witness. Even though we cannot walk through Eden today, we can still look at the natural world and see reminders of the Creator's handiwork. The beauty of a sunrise, the complexity of the human body, the order of the seasons, the variety of living things, and the vastness of the heavens all point beyond themselves to a Creator.

Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” Creation cannot tell us everything we need to know about God, but it can awaken our hearts to the reality that we are not here by accident. Nature points us toward the One who made it.

And perhaps there is an even more personal message in all of this. The God who walked with Adam and Eve in Eden is still seeking us today. Sin may have brought distance, but God continues to call. He speaks through Scripture, through the story of Jesus, through the beauty of creation, and through the quiet conviction of the Holy Spirit.

The question God asked Adam still carries meaning for us: “Where are you?” Not because God has lost track of us, but because He wants us to come out of hiding and return to fellowship with Him.

We may be thousands of years removed from Eden, but God's desire has not changed. He still wants us to know Him. He still invites us to listen. And ultimately, He has spoken most clearly through Jesus Christ, who came to restore the relationship that sin damaged.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for creating us in Your image and for desiring a personal relationship with us. Thank You for the evidence of Your handiwork that surrounds us and reminds us that You are our Creator. Forgive us for the times we hide from You because of sin, shame, or fear. Help us hear Your voice through Scripture, through creation, and especially through Jesus. Draw us back into close fellowship with You. May we never forget that the God who came looking for Adam and Eve still seeks us today. In Jesus' name, amen.

The Grace of Jesus

  Sabbath School First and Second Corinthians  Grace, Love, and Fellowship Lesson 13 - Sunday Grace at the Beginning and the End Read Romans 16:20, Galatians 6:18, Philippians 4:23, and 1 Thessalonians 5:28. Although these passages come from different letters, they share a beautiful and important teaching: the Christian life begins, continues, and ends with the grace of Jesus Christ. Paul repeatedly closes his letters by reminding believers of grace. This was not merely a polite way to end a letter. Grace was at the heart of his message. The church needed grace, and so do we.
