  Seeing the Bigger Picture The story of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24:13–27 reveals a striking contrast between human understanding and divine perspective. As they walked away from Jerusalem, the disciples were discouraged, confused, and heartbroken. They believed that Jesus was the promised Messiah, but His crucifixion seemed to shatter their hopes. From their viewpoint, the story had ended in defeat. Jesus, however, saw something entirely different. As He joined them on the road, the disciples did not recognize Him. They focused on the events they could see and understand—the arrest, the trial, the cross, and the tomb. Their perspective was limited to the immediate circumstances. Jesus, on the other hand, saw the fulfillment of God's eternal plan. What looked like a tragedy to them was actually a victory over sin and death. How often do we find ourselves in the same position?
