Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Revelation and Inspiration  Lesson 5 - Tuesday God’s Word Is Trustworthy Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1:18–21 Throughout history, God has chosen to communicate with humanity in different ways. Sometimes He spoke directly, sometimes through visions and dreams, and often through the words of His prophets. Some of these messages were written down and preserved in Scripture, while others were delivered orally to the people who needed to hear them. But this raises an important question: How can we be sure that the spoken messages of God's prophets were just as inspired and reliable as the written ones? Second Peter 1:18–21 gives us a powerful answer. In this passage, Peter recalls the experience of witnessing the majesty of Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. He had heard the voice of God declaring that Jesus was His beloved Son. This was not simply Peter's personal opinion or an idea he had developed through human reasoning. He had witnesse...

The Process of Inspiration

Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Revelation and Inspiration  Lesson 5 - Monday God’s Word: A Perfect Gift for Our Lives Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 3:15–17 and James 1:17 God has given us many wonderful gifts, but one of the most precious is His written Word. Through the Scriptures, we learn who God is, why we need a Savior, and how we can live lives that honor Him. The Bible is not merely a collection of ancient stories, wise sayings, or religious traditions. It is God's inspired message, given to guide us toward salvation through Jesus Christ and prepare us for the work He has called us to do. In 2 Timothy 3:15–17, Paul reminds Timothy that the Holy Scriptures are able to make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Notice that the purpose of Scripture is not simply to increase our knowledge or make us more religious. Its central purpose is to lead us to Jesus, the One who saves us from sin and offers us eternal life. We do not earn salvation by knowing ...

General and Special Revelation

Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Revelation and Inspiration  Lesson 5 - Sunday God Wants to Speak to Us Bible Reading: Hebrews 1:1–2 Throughout history, God has continually reached out to humanity. He has spoken through His prophets, revealed Himself through creation, and ultimately made Himself known through His Son, Jesus Christ. But why is God so interested in speaking to us? The answer is found in His love. He created us, desires a relationship with us, and wants us to understand His character, His will, and His wonderful plan to save us from sin. Hebrews 1:1–2 tells us that God spoke in the past through the prophets in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us through His Son. The prophets delivered messages from God that helped people understand His purposes, recognize their need for repentance, and look forward to the coming Messiah. Jesus, however, revealed God in a unique and complete way. Through His words, His actions, His compassion, and u...

Arm Yourself Against the Deceptions of This World

Image
Bible Reading: Ephesians 6:10–18 We live in a world filled with deception. False teachings, misleading information, political manipulation, sensational claims, and distorted versions of truth can make it difficult to know what to believe. Even sincere Christians can be led astray when they rely more on human opinions, popular ideas, or personal feelings than on the Word of God. So how can we protect ourselves against the deceptions sweeping our world? Paul gives us a powerful answer in Ephesians 6:11 (KJV): “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Notice that Paul tells us to put on the whole armor of God. We cannot afford to protect ourselves in one area while leaving ourselves vulnerable in another. Satan does not always approach us with obvious evil. Sometimes deception comes wrapped in appealing words, religious language, half-truths, or ideas that seem reasonable but gradually lead us away from God. Jesus warned us about ...

Everyone Has a Place in God's Work

Image
Key Text: 1 Corinthians 12:4–6 (KJV) “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.” God's work has never depended on just one kind of person. Throughout the Bible, God has used young and old, men and women, people with great abilities and people who felt inadequate. What matters is not our age, our position, or how impressive our talents may seem, but our willingness to let God work through us. In 1 Timothy 4:12, Paul encouraged young Timothy, saying, “Let no man despise thy youth.” Timothy was young, yet God had given him a meaningful role in ministry. In Luke 2:36–38, we read about Anna, an elderly prophetess who worshiped God faithfully and spoke about Jesus to those who were looking for redemption. Their circumstances were different, but both had a place in God's work. The same is true today. Not everyone is...

The Bible Above All: Why Scripture Must Remain Our Final Authority

Image
Honoring the Gift of Prophecy Without Placing Human Writings on the Level of God’s Written Word Introduction: Where Does Our Authority Begin? Within Seventh-day Adventism, we have a long tradition of valuing the Bible and the ministry of Ellen G. White. Both have played important roles in shaping our understanding of Scripture, our spiritual lives, and our mission. Yet an important distinction must never be lost: the Bible is the inspired standard by which every teaching, prophetic claim, religious tradition, and spiritual experience must be tested. This principle does not diminish the possibility that God may guide people through the spiritual gift of prophecy. Rather, it recognizes the unique place Scripture occupies in Christian faith. If we believe the Bible is God's inspired Word, then no later writer, church leader, religious organization, or spiritual experience can legitimately be placed above it—or used to establish a doctrine that cannot be supported by it. Our loyalty ...
