Jesus as Prophet

Image
Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Old Testament Prophets  Lesson 4 - Sunday Jesus, the Prophet Who Is More Than a Prophet Bible Reading: Matthew 16:13–16; Mark 8:27–29; Luke 9:18–20 “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” — Matthew 16:14, NKJV During H is ministry, Jesus asked His disciples an important question: “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” (Matthew 16:13, NKJV). The answers revealed that people recognized something special about Him. Some believed He was John the Baptist raised from the dead, while others thought He was Elijah, Jeremiah, or one of the other prophets. Why did people make these comparisons? The prophets of the Old Testament had spoken God's messages, warned people about sin, called them to repentance, and pointed them toward God's promises. Jesus did these things, too. He boldly confronted hypocrisy, called sinners to repentance, revealed God's character, and taught with an authority that ...

Apostles and Prophets

Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Old Testament Prophets  Lesson 4 - Monday Built on Christ, Guided by His Messengers Bible Reading: Ephesians 2:20; Ephesians 3:1–5; 2 Peter 3:1–2 “Having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone.” — Ephesians 2:20, NKJV Throughout the Bible, God has used different people to communicate His truth and guide His people. In the Old Testament, He called prophets to deliver His messages. In the New Testament, He called apostles to carry the gospel to the world. Although their responsibilities sometimes differed, both served the same God and pointed people toward the same Savior, Jesus Christ. The word apostle comes from a Greek word meaning someone who is sent forth as a messenger. Jesus chose twelve disciples to be His apostles, training them to witness to His life, teachings, death, and resurrection. Later, others were also recognized as apostles. Paul, for example, repea...

Functions of New Testament Prophets

Image
Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Old Testament Prophets  Lesson 4 - Tuesday The Purpose of New Testament Prophets Encouragement, spiritual growth, and faithfulness to God's Word Key Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 14:3, Ephesians 4:11–13, Revelation 22:6 God has always used prophets to communicate His message to His people. Although their circumstances and responsibilities varied, their purpose was not to draw attention to themselves but to help people understand God's will and remain faithful to Him. In 1 Corinthians 14:3, Paul explains that the person who prophesies speaks to people for their “edification and exhortation and comfort” (NKJV). These three words reveal something important about the prophetic gift. Edification means building people up in their faith. Exhortation means encouraging and urging them to follow God's will. Comfort means strengthening those who are discouraged, hurting, or struggling. True prophetic ministry was meant to help people grow closer to...

Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Old Testament Prophets  Lesson 4 - Wednesday  God Calls and Equips His Servants Female prophets, young leaders, and the importance of spiritual mentorship Key Scriptures: Luke 2:36–38, Acts 21:9, 1 Timothy 1:18, Titus 2:15 Throughout the Bible, God has called people from different backgrounds, ages, and circumstances to serve Him. His work has never depended on one particular group of people. He chooses those who are willing to respond to His calling and use their gifts for His glory. Luke 2:36–38 introduces us to Anna, a prophetess who served God faithfully in the temple. She was an older widow who devoted herself to worship, fasting, and prayer. When Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the temple, Anna recognized God's hand at work and spoke about Him to those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem. Her story reminds us that a faithful life of service can prepare us to recognize God's work and share the good news...
