Experiencing God’s Miracles Today

Lessons of Faith from Joshua - Sabbath School Lesson 3 -  Friday Further Thought

Experiencing God’s Miracles Today

Scripture Focus: Joshua 3:14–17; Psalm 77:14; John 14:12; Acts 3:6

Devotional:
The crossing of the Jordan River was one of the most remarkable miracles in Israel’s history. As the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant stepped into the river, the waters stood still, allowing the Israelites to cross on dry ground (Joshua 3:14–17). This extraordinary event reminds us that God is sovereign over nature and able to intervene in ways beyond human understanding.

But what exactly is a miracle? A miracle is an act of God that transcends natural laws, a divine intervention that points to His power, goodness, and love. Often, when we look around today, we may wonder why such dramatic miracles don’t seem as visible. Does this mean God has stopped working in our world? Not at all. While the form may differ, God continues to work in miraculous ways, sometimes through ordinary people.

The Bible tells us of miracles performed by God in both the Old and New Testaments. In the Old Testament, He healed Naaman the leper through the prophet Elisha (2 Kings 5), and provided manna for the Israelites in the wilderness (Exodus 16). In the New Testament, Jesus healed the sick (Matthew 9:35), raised the dead (John 11:43–44), and empowered His disciples to continue His work (John 14:12).

Today, God often performs miracles through people and practical means. Doctors, nurses, caregivers, and even scientists can be instruments of God’s healing, wisdom, and guidance. Their skills, knowledge, and compassion reflect God’s love and intervention in the lives of those in need. Miracles may not always involve rivers standing still or instant resurrections, but they are visible in answered prayers, restored health, reconciled relationships, and daily blessings that sustain us.

When we pause and recognize God’s hand in both the extraordinary and the ordinary, our faith is strengthened. The miracle of the Jordan reminds us that nothing is impossible for God, and that He continues to work in our lives today in ways both dramatic and subtle.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the miracles You performed in the past and the ways You continue to work in our lives today. Help us to see Your hand in both the extraordinary and ordinary moments. Give us eyes to recognize Your interventions, whether through people, circumstances, or Your Spirit. Strengthen our faith to trust You fully, knowing that You are always at work for our good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
