The Risen Christ, Our Only Hope!

Sabbath School First and Second Corinthians  The Power of Christ's Reurrection Lesson 8 - Monday   If Christ Has Not Been Raised Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:9–19 The resurrection of Jesus Christ is not a minor detail of the Christian faith. It is the foundation of our hope. Paul makes this unmistakably clear in 1 Corinthians 15:9–19. He asks us to consider what would happen if Christ had not been raised from the dead. The answer is sobering. If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is empty, our faith is empty, and our testimony about God is false. Paul even says that we would still be in our sins. Those who have died believing in Christ would have perished. And if our hope in Christ is limited to this present life, Paul says we are “of all men most miserable” (1 Cor. 15:19, KJV).   Sabbath School First and Second Corinthians  The Power of Christ's Reurrection Lesson 8 - Sunday The Resurrection We Believe and Proclaim The resurrection of Jesus Christ stands at the very heart of the Christian faith. In 1 Corinthians 15:1–4, Luke 24:44–47, and Romans 1:1–4, we find a common message: Jesus died, was buried, and rose again according to the Scriptures. His resurrection was not an unexpected accident. It was part of God’s plan and was foretold in His Word. Paul tells the Corinthians that he preached the gospel to them, and that they received it and stood firmly in it. He reminds them that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was raised on the third day. Luke records Jesus explaining to His disciples that His suffering, death, and resurrection fulfilled what had been written about Him. Sabbath School First and Second Corinthians  The Power of Christ's Reurrection Lesson 8 - Tuesday   Christ the Firstfruits: Our Hope for the Future Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:20–23; 2 Timothy 1:12 Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 15:20 are filled with hope: “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept” (KJV). The resurrection of Jesus was not an isolated event. It was the beginning of something much greater. Christ's resurrection guarantees that those who belong to Him will also be raised. Christ Is the Firstfruits What does Paul mean when he calls Jesus the “firstfruits” ? In the Old Testament, the firstfruits were the first portion of a harvest. They were brought to God as an offering and represented the larger harvest that would follow. Paul uses this picture to explain the resurrection. Jesus is the firstfruits.   Sabbath School First and Second Corinthians  The Power of Christ's Reurrection Lesson 8 - Friday Further Thought  The disciples who followed Jesus had something we do not have: they actually saw the risen Christ. After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to His followers, spoke with them, ate with them, and gave them instructions concerning the coming mission. The book of Acts repeatedly emphasizes that the apostles were eyewitnesses of the resurrection . Acts 1:22 speaks of someone who had been with Jesus from the beginning and could become a witness “with us of His resurrection.” Peter declared in Acts 2:32, “This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.” In Acts 3:15, Peter boldly proclaimed that the religious leaders had killed “the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.” Acts 4:33 says that the apostles gave witness “with great power” to the resurrection of Jesus.
