Sabbath School First and Second Corinthians  Stewardship and Mission Lesson 11 - Sunday From Riches to Redemption “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” — 2 Corinthians 8:9 What does Jesus’ example teach us? He teaches us what true, selfless love looks like. Jesus had everything in heaven, yet He willingly gave it all for us. He did not come to earth because we deserved His sacrifice. He came because He loved us. Think about the journey Jesus took for you. He left the glory of heaven and entered our broken world. He was born as a baby, lived among ordinary people, experienced rejection and suffering, and ultimately gave His life on the cross. The One who created us allowed Himself to be nailed to a cross so that we could have forgiveness and eternal life. But the story did not end at the grave. Jesus rose again! Sabbath School First and Second Corinthians  Stewardship and Mission Lesson 11 - Monday Giving from a Grateful Heart “But first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.” — 2 Corinthians 8:5 The central message of these passages is simple: true Christian giving begins with giving ourselves to God. The believers Paul describes were generous not because they had an abundance of money, but because their hearts had been changed by God’s grace. Their giving became an expression of their love, gratitude, and commitment to Him. Paul reminds us that God loves a cheerful giver. Our giving should never be motivated by guilt, pressure, or the desire to impress others. It should come from a heart that recognizes everything we have ultimately comes from God. Now think about the Cross. Jesus gave everything for us. He gave His time, His strength, His life, and ultimately Himself so that we could have salvation. The Macedonians were experiencing “a severe test of affliction” and “extreme poverty,” yet they gave with overflowing joy and generosity. How could people who had so little be willing to give so much? The answer may be found in verse 5: “They gave themselves first to the Lord.” Their generosity was not primarily about money. It was about their relationship with God. The Macedonians understood that everything they had ultimately belonged to God. Their difficult circumstances did not determine their willingness to give.
