When Creation Still Whispers
Thousands of years have passed since sin entered the world. We have never experienced Eden as Adam and Eve did—without death, suffering, fear, or separation from God. Yet even in our fallen world, creation still gives us glimpses of the beauty and order God originally intended.
Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” Every sunrise, mountain, ocean, star-filled sky, and living creature points beyond itself to a Creator. Nature may be damaged by sin, but it still carries evidence of His handiwork.
Jesus also pointed His listeners to creation. He said, “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow” (Matthew 6:28). The flowers do not worry about tomorrow, yet God provides for them. Jesus used something as ordinary as a flower to remind us that our heavenly Father cares for us even more.
Romans 1:20 tells us that “His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made.” Creation cannot tell us everything we need to know about God—that is why He has given us His Word and revealed Himself through Jesus. But creation can awaken our hearts to recognize that we are not here by accident. There is a Creator behind the beauty, order, and life we see around us.
Perhaps one reason nature can move us so deeply is that something in us remembers what was lost. We long for a world without death, pain, violence, and fear because we were created for something better. The beauty we see today is only a faint reminder of what God originally made.
The good news is that God has not abandoned His creation. Through Jesus, He is making all things new. Revelation 21:5 gives us this promise: “Behold, I make all things new.” One day, the brokenness caused by sin will be gone, and God’s creation will once again reflect His glory without the scars of sin.
So the next time you watch a sunrise, hear birds singing, or see the beauty of a flower, pause for a moment. Let creation remind you of its Creator—and let that reminder point you toward the greater promise of a restored creation.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the beauty You have placed in Your creation. Even though sin has brought suffering and brokenness into this world, help us to see the reminders of Your goodness all around us. When we see the beauty of nature, remind us that You are the Creator who loves us and has not abandoned us. Help us look beyond what is temporary and hold on to Your promise to make all things new. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
