General and Special Revelation

Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Revelation and Inspiration  Lesson 5 - Sunday God Wants to Speak to Us Bible Reading: Hebrews 1:1–2 Throughout history, God has continually reached out to humanity. He has spoken through His prophets, revealed Himself through creation, and ultimately made Himself known through His Son, Jesus Christ. But why is God so interested in speaking to us? The answer is found in His love. He created us, desires a relationship with us, and wants us to understand His character, His will, and His wonderful plan to save us from sin. Hebrews 1:1–2 tells us that God spoke in the past through the prophets in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us through His Son. The prophets delivered messages from God that helped people understand His purposes, recognize their need for repentance, and look forward to the coming Messiah. Jesus, however, revealed God in a unique and complete way. Through His words, His actions, His compassion, and u...

The Process of Inspiration

Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Revelation and Inspiration  Lesson 5 - Monday God’s Word: A Perfect Gift for Our Lives Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 3:15–17 and James 1:17 God has given us many wonderful gifts, but one of the most precious is His written Word. Through the Scriptures, we learn who God is, why we need a Savior, and how we can live lives that honor Him. The Bible is not merely a collection of ancient stories, wise sayings, or religious traditions. It is God's inspired message, given to guide us toward salvation through Jesus Christ and prepare us for the work He has called us to do. In 2 Timothy 3:15–17, Paul reminds Timothy that the Holy Scriptures are able to make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Notice that the purpose of Scripture is not simply to increase our knowledge or make us more religious. Its central purpose is to lead us to Jesus, the One who saves us from sin and offers us eternal life. We do not earn salvation by knowing ...

Oral Messages

Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Revelation and Inspiration  Lesson 5 - Tuesday God’s Word Is Trustworthy Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1:18–21 Throughout history, God has chosen to communicate with humanity in different ways. Sometimes He spoke directly, sometimes through visions and dreams, and often through the words of His prophets. Some of these messages were written down and preserved in Scripture, while others were delivered orally to the people who needed to hear them. But this raises an important question: How can we be sure that the spoken messages of God's prophets were just as inspired and reliable as the written ones? Second Peter 1:18–21 gives us a powerful answer. In this passage, Peter recalls the experience of witnessing the majesty of Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. He had heard the voice of God declaring that Jesus was His beloved Son. This was not simply Peter's personal opinion or an idea he had developed through human reasoning. He had witnesse...

Sabbath School The Gift of Prophecy  Revelation and Inspiration  Lesson 5 - Wednesday Why God Preserved His Word in Writing Bible Reading: Exodus 17:14; John 20:30–31; 1 Corinthians 10:11; Revelation 1:19 Have you ever wondered why God asked His prophets to write down the messages He gave them? God could have continued communicating only through spoken messages, but He chose to preserve important revelations in written form. He knew that future generations would need reliable access to His words, His instructions, and the record of His dealings with humanity. The written Scriptures are one of His wonderful provisions for helping us understand His character, learn from the past, and discover the salvation He offers through Jesus Christ. In Exodus 17:14, after Israel's victory over the Amalekites, God instructed Moses to write the account in a book as a memorial. This teaches us one important reason for writing down God's messages: to preserve a record of what He had done...
