Why Does God Choose to Work Through Imperfect People?
Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:7 (NKJV)
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.”
Have you ever wondered why God chose to use imperfect human beings to deliver His message to the world rather than sinless angels? After all, angels are powerful, obedient, and have never experienced the struggles of living in a sinful world. Wouldn't they seem like the better choice?
Yet throughout Scripture, God repeatedly chose ordinary, imperfect people to accomplish extraordinary things. Moses struggled with his speech. David committed terrible sins. Jonah ran away from God's assignment. Peter denied Jesus three times. Paul once persecuted Christians. Yet God worked through each of them to accomplish His purposes.
Perhaps one important reason is that human beings can share experiences that angels have never personally known. We understand temptation, discouragement, failure, forgiveness, and the transforming power of God's grace. When someone who has experienced God's forgiveness tells another person about His mercy, that testimony carries a powerful message. We aren't simply repeating information; we are sharing what God has done in our lives.
There is another important lesson here. God doesn't need perfect people to accomplish His work. He needs people who are willing to trust Him, follow His leading, and allow the Holy Spirit to work through them. As Paul reminds us, we are earthen vessels carrying a priceless treasure. The power does not come from the vessel, but from the One who fills it.
Think about that the next time you feel inadequate to share your faith or help someone discover Jesus. You don't have to know every answer, have a perfect past, or possess extraordinary abilities. You simply need to be willing to let God use you.
The beauty of God's work is that He receives the glory, even when He chooses to work through imperfect people.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing to work through ordinary people like us. We recognize our weaknesses, our failures, and our need for Your grace. Help us never to allow our imperfections to become an excuse for refusing Your calling. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, give us the courage to share Your love, and help our lives point others to Jesus. May people see Your goodness and power working through us rather than focusing on our shortcomings. In Jesus' name, Amen.
