Lesson 7 - Tuesday

When God's Warnings Are Ignored

Scripture Reading: 2 Chronicles 36:15–16 (NKJV)

Throughout the history of Judah, God repeatedly demonstrated His love, patience, and desire to save His people. Even when they turned away from Him, He did not immediately abandon them. Instead, He continued sending prophets to warn them, call them to repentance, and remind them of the consequences of their disobedience.

Second Chronicles 36:15 tells us something important about God's character: He sent His messengers repeatedly because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. Think about that for a moment. God wasn't looking for reasons to destroy Judah. He was looking for reasons to save them! His warnings were acts of mercy, not expressions of anger.

But how did Judah respond? Verse 16 gives us a heartbreaking answer. They mocked God's messengers, despised His words, and ridiculed His prophets until there was no remedy. Rather than listening to God's warnings, they hardened their hearts and continued down a path of rebellion. Eventually, God's judgment came. Jerusalem was destroyed, the temple was burned, and many of the people were carried into Babylonian captivity.

There is a serious lesson here for us today. It is possible to become so comfortable with our own opinions, habits, and beliefs that we stop listening when God tries to correct us. We may attend church, read our Bibles, and even speak about God's truth while refusing to allow that truth to change our lives. Judah's greatest mistake wasn't that God failed to warn them. It was that they repeatedly refused to listen.

We must never mistake God's patience for permission to continue in disobedience. When Scripture exposes something wrong in our lives, we should not become defensive or look for excuses. Instead, we should humble ourselves, listen, and allow God's Word to lead us back to Him.

Thankfully, God's desire is still to save, not destroy. His warnings are expressions of love, and His invitation to repentance is still open. Let us never become so hardened that we despise the very words God has given to lead us to eternal life. The question isn't whether God is speaking through His Word. The question is whether we are willing to listen.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your patience, mercy, and willingness to continually call us back to You. Forgive us for the times we have ignored Your Word, resisted Your correction, or made excuses for our disobedience. Give us humble hearts that are willing to listen, learn, and obey. Help us recognize that Your warnings come from love and that Your desire is to save us. May we never become so comfortable in our own ways that we stop hearing Your voice. Keep us faithful to Your Word and help us walk daily with Jesus. In His precious name, Amen.
