When Heaven Feels Silent: Trusting God While You Wait in Prayer
There are seasons when prayer feels like speaking into silence. We pour out our hearts, ask God for help, and sometimes hear nothing in return. In those moments, doubt can creep in and make us wonder if God is listening at all. Yet the book of Psalms reminds us that this struggle is not new. The psalmists were deeply honest about their pain, questions, and longing for God to respond. Their prayers reveal that faith is not pretending everything is fine—it is continuing to seek God even when answers seem delayed.
Book of Psalms gives us a beautiful example in Psalm 62. David begins with quiet surrender: “Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation” (Psalm 62:1, KJV). He repeats this truth in verse 5, saying, “My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.” Waiting in silence before God is not passive resignation—it is active trust. It means choosing to believe that God is working even when we cannot yet see the answer. Silence can feel uncomfortable, but sometimes God uses it to deepen our dependence on Him.
David then broadens the invitation: “Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us” (Psalm 62:8). Prayer was never meant to be polished or distant. God invites honest prayers—tears, frustrations, hopes, and fears included. He is not intimidated by our emotions. He welcomes us to bring everything before Him because He is our refuge. If your prayers feel repetitive or unanswered today, keep praying. Persistence in prayer builds endurance and reminds our hearts where true security is found.
The psalm closes with confidence: “God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God” (Psalm 62:11). David ends not by focusing on his problem, but on God’s power and faithfulness. Answers may not always come in the timing or way we expect, but God does respond—through His Word, His peace, His providence, or His perfect timing. Keep praying. Heaven is not silent forever, and God has never ignored the cries of His children. Trust Him in the waiting.
