When Doubts Arise

When Doubts Arise

After His resurrection, Jesus suddenly appeared among His disciples. Instead of rejoicing, they were terrified. They had heard reports that He was alive, yet when He stood before them, fear and doubt filled their hearts. Jesus gently asked, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?” (Luke 24:38, NKJV).

Those words are just as relevant today as they were then.

Life has a way of filling our hearts with uncertainty. We face financial struggles, health challenges, family problems, disappointments, and unanswered questions. In those moments, it can seem as though God is distant or unaware of our circumstances. Fear begins to grow, and doubt quietly takes root.

Yet the reality is that Jesus is often much closer than we realize. Just as He walked with the disciples on the road to Emmaus before they recognized Him, He walks beside us through every valley. He sees the tears we cry, hears the prayers we whisper, and understands every burden we carry.

One of our greatest struggles is believing that God knows what He is doing when we cannot see the whole picture. The disciples thought they understood what should happen to Jesus. When events unfolded differently than expected, they became discouraged and confused. We often do the same. We create our own plans, expectations, and timelines, and when life takes an unexpected turn, we question God's leading.

But unlike us, Jesus sees the beginning and the end. He knows the purpose behind every trial and every delay. What appears to be a setback may actually be part of His greater plan. What feels like abandonment may be His invitation to deeper trust.

When doubts arise, Jesus does not condemn us. Instead, He lovingly invites us to remember who He is. The same Savior who conquered death holds our lives securely in His hands. No circumstance is beyond His control. No problem is too great for His power. No valley is too dark for His presence.

Today, if your heart is troubled, listen to the voice of Jesus asking, "Why are you troubled?" Bring your fears to Him. Surrender your doubts to Him. Trust that even when you cannot understand what is happening, He is still working for your good and His glory.

The disciples' story reminds us that what looks like the end is often only the beginning of God's greater work.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for walking beside us even when we fail to recognize Your presence. Forgive us for the times we allow fear and doubt to overshadow our faith. Help us trust that You see the full picture when we can only see a small part. Strengthen our hearts when we are troubled, and remind us that our lives are secure in Your hands. Teach us to rest in Your promises and to follow You with confidence, knowing that You are always working for our good. In Jesus' name, Amen.
