Lessons of Faith from Joshua - Sabbath School Lesson 1 - Monday Commentary The Structure of Faithful Obedience Joshua 1 The first chapter of Joshua does more than open a new book of the Bible—it lays out the roadmap for the entire story of Israel’s entry into the Promised Land. In fact, it gives us a structure that helps us understand how God leads His people and what He requires of us in the journey of faith. Joshua 1 is built around four key speeches: Crossing (Joshua 1:2–9): God calls Joshua to lead His people across the Jordan, a step of faith into the unknown. Strength and courage will be needed, but the Lord assures His presence. Conquering (Joshua 1:10, 11): Joshua commands the people to prepare, for victory will only come as they move forward in obedience. Dividing the Land (Joshua 1:12–15): The promises of God extend to all the tribes, but each must play its part so that everyone may share in the inheritance.
