The Joys of Eternity Human beings were created for more than the brief years we spend on this earth. Deep within our hearts is a longing for something greater—a desire for a world without pain, suffering, and death. The Bible tells us that God has placed eternity in our hearts, and that longing points us toward the glorious future He has prepared for His people. The world we live in is filled with reminders that something is not right. We experience sickness, loss, disappointment, and heartache. Even the happiest moments are often overshadowed by the reality that nothing here lasts forever. Yet God's Word assures us that these struggles are temporary. A better day is coming. Isaiah gives us a beautiful promise: “He will swallow up death forever” (Isaiah 25:8). Death has been humanity's greatest enemy since sin entered the world.
